Sunscreen: Everybody's Friend

Summertime is here! And that means everybody is spending more time in the sun. Although some sun exposure is nedded to activate vitamin D which helps with among other things, bone health, too much sun can be damaging to your skin. If you are going to spend time in the sun, regular usage of sunscreen is important. Sunscreen is important for everybody! Everyone has melanin in there skin some have more than others but melanin protection can only go so far. Sunscreen can help prevent premature wrinkles, dry flaky skin, hyper pigmentation, and the dreaded "C" word. Look for sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. There are no proven benefits of sunscreen with an SPF higher than 30. Most sunscreens take effect in about 20 minutes when applied. But sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are activated as soon as applied. Remember to reapply sunscreen every 30 minutes depending on how long you are going to be in the sun. Fun in the Sun does not have to be damaging to your skin!
