Turn N Burn or Go N Glo

Who wouldn’t want that sun-kissed look on their skin in the summertime? Many choose the sun or a tanning booth, while others opt for bronzers. They come in the form of lotion, sprays, powder, and minerals. The key to a natural looking, sunless tan is of course, proper application. Streaks are disempowering. If overdone, one can look like a human orange or a golden android. It’s always best to seek out a spa professional who could apply a professional, spreadable tan or a spray-bake that’s suitable for you. However, if it’s not in your budget, I advise you to do your homework rather than risking a hit-or-miss purchase.

The benefits of bronzers can easily be found to far outweigh the pleasures of tanning. A sun-free, faux glow is safer than an electrical tanning source or sun bathing. The only drawbacks of topical bakes are risks of discoloration and a short wear-time. Exposure to age-accelerating rays from either tanning source causes skin damage that may NOT be seen for years by the naked eye. Technologically advanced tools, such as a Wood’s Lamp, would be used by an Esthetician could foresee any sun damage.

Adding to that, the Sun’s UVA/UVB rays increases many health risks besides the obvious; skin cancer-yes, even with sunscreen. Tanning dries the skin which not only promotes flakiness, but premature wrinkles, and eventually, a leathery look and feel. Dry skin is more susceptible to a bacterial breeding ground, because the skin’s protective lipid barrier, created by oil glands, has been stripped. It’s comparable to traumatized skin that’s been rug burned or wind chaffed. The skin’s integrity is compromised whereas drops of lemon juice would easily penetrate and burn than it would on skin that’s intact.

Now you can make an informed decision. You can either Turn N Burn or Go N Glo. Choosing the latter essentially means that you wil have avoided the need to invest more time and money into your skin to slow down and attempt to reverse premature signs of aging.

Stay tuned for the next posting of how to choose the best facial bronzer for your skin and body regardless of whether or not you are a person of color.
